DVC Owners, did you know that you can ‘rent’ out spare points that you either can’t or don’t want to use at any time. And there are thousands of potential renters ready and waiting to take those points and use them to give them access to Deluxe DVC Properties saving them thousands of dollars in the process. It’s a win-win situation right? But what’s the catch? Well there really is none. DVC Owners are permitted to ‘rent’ out their points as they wish.
Since its inception in 2014, we have built a community on our dedicated Facebook Group with membership now in excess of 38,000 and growing by more than 1.000 new members every month. The group consists of both Owners and Potential Renters. This means that as an owner, once you have joined our Facebook Group, you can post your available points or confirmed reservation and expect to receive offers in a matter of minutes. There is no fee to use this service, the group is operated by a small team of dedicated volunteers who are also like minded owners and experienced renters.
There are commercial alternatives out in the market – Middle men, or brokers – and it may at first seem more appealing to use these services. But there really is no need and you can cut out the middle man and access renters directly and more quickly. You can agree the terms of your own deal that suit you.
Payment options, payment terms and all other aspects of your deal are yours to agree to with the renter you find. As an owner, you are significantly more protected in this type of deal, so please bear in mind that the renter you find to work with my want to satisfy themselves that you are the right owner to work with. You should be prepared to offer references as well as potentially providing proof of DVC Ownership, which for Central Florida DVC Properties, can usually be fairly quickly and easily verified on the OCC Comptroller Website; for other regional DVC ownership verification, please review the DVC Ownership Check page. Once both you and your renter are happy with each along with any terms that you’ve agreed, you can continue to the deal.
Owners should make the booking on behalf of the renter, in exactly the same way you would do for your own booking, except that the traveller details you enter into the DVC Member website (or provide to the DVC agent if you call in) should be those of your renter, including their other details, which include their full address, email address, telephone number and ages for anyone in the party under 18 years old. Once the booking is made, the owner should provide the renter with the booking reference and the renter will be able to take that booking reference, add it to the MDE (My Disney Experience App/Website) which will unlock options for the renter to make their own arrangements such as Dining, without the need to having the owner do this for them. There are a few things that only the owner will be able to add such as Disney Dining Packages.
As the owner, you still retain full control over the booking and ultimately you can change or cancel the booking as you would your own. Obviously as a trustworthy and responsible owner, you would only do this in conjunction with the wishes of your renter.
It’s just that easy to put a few extra bucks in your pocket to pay your dues, go on other vacations or simply enjoy having a few extra dollars in the bank. Additionally, you know you’ve provided a valuable service to a renter who may otherwise not be able to afford to stay at a DVC Deluxe Resort.
